A batch of my poems appears with the Journal of Wild Culture in January, 2019. Editor Whitney Smith writes,
Some writers reach into the dark and pull out things stirring in us we haven’t been able to grasp ourselves. Julia Travers has such an ability: to pluck the shadow and hold it up for inspection. For readers the result is not always victorious, but it nudges us to hold our little conquests, one by one, up to the light.
Read “Early Marriage,” “Red Horse,” “Annapolis,” “2017,” and “April” on the journal. An excerpt of “Early Marriage” is below.
I know your grocery list by heart:
cheddar, tuna, pistachios, Earl Gray, olives.
I sometimes feel death
trying to throw a blanket over us
as if we were an unruly fire.
